What To Do To Prepare Your Child For A Dental Visit?
The right time for your child to do a dental check-up is as early as when the tooth erupted because:

Our Child Dentistry Treatment

Fluoride Therapy

Fluoride therapy is essential for pediatric patients to make sure that the teeth have proper protection against bacteria. As the patient is too young to use fluoridated toothpaste and fears that they might ingest it, fluoride therapy at the clinic is the treatment that can benefit the patient. It is painless and quick. Babies as early as 6 months can tolerate the treatment.

Polishing

Polishing is a baby version of adult scaling treatment. Some babies, toddlers, and preschoolers don’t have calculus (tartar) but they have a lot of plaque. With polishing, we can do the removal of plaques, and stains on the teeth and altogether refresh the breath. It is just like brushing teeth at home but with a motorized “toothbrush”.

Loose Removal

Your child’s tooth becomes loose? Come to us to have it removed! We have a special strawberry numbing gel to make the ordeal a lot more tolerable. At the end of the treatment, the patient will get a free tooth necklace to keep the tooth inside.

Orthodontics

Did you know that early intervention in jaw growth could help with tooth arrangement? If parents started noticing any malocclusions (crowding, spacing, underbite, overjet) on the teeth, parents can bring the child to get a consult on what to do early on. Some may avoid needing braces when they become a teenager.

Tooth Filling

As for cases where the tooth is already infected with caries, filling needs to be done to stop the progression of caries and restore its function. We offer fillings for children too! And yes, it is essential to do the fillings and not leave it to become worse. Even though they are only baby teeth, it’s important to prolong their life so that the adult teeth that follow won’t have any issues. The condition of the baby teeth determines the formation of the adult teeth and also their location.

Pulpotomy/ Pulpectomy

In cases where the tooth cavity gets so deep that it reaches the pulp, the filling is no longer an option. The symptom that may happen is the child will feel very strong pain. Treatment that can help to relieve the pain is pulpotomy/pulpectomy. Or another name as adults may be familiar with is root canal treatment. This is to remove inflamed pulp and nerve tissue and to replace the area with medication so that the tooth will not be extracted, preserving the space and function. The treatment is long and complicated so best to go to the dentist before it gets this bad. Remember, the key is regular checkups to prevent this from happening.

Child Dentistry FAQ

Checkup must be done as early as the tooth erupted.

Brush their teeth at least twice a day (especially before going to bed at night) with a soft bristle brush and toothpaste.

Do not use fluoridated toothpaste until age 3. Earlier than that, clean your child’s teeth with water and a soft-bristled toothbrush. After age 3, parents should supervise brushing. Use no more than a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and make sure children do not swallow excess toothpaste.

To comfort your child, rinse his/her mouth with warm salt water and apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in a cloth on your child’s face if it is swollen. Do not put heat or aspirin on the sore area. See us as soon as possible.
